Teaching Parent Couple

DETAILS:

We are seeking a Full-time Teacher Parent Couple to join our team in enriching the quality of life for youth utilizing the Teaching Family Model.  Our Teaching Parent Couple will live in one of our brand-new Hope Ranch homes with six youth.  

Salary and Benefits:  

  • $55,000 annual/couple; 

  • Rent free private house – utilities included;

  • Medical  Insurance for each;

  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match up to 1%; 

  • 15 Personal Time Off (PTO) days, for each spouse, can be used for personal, vacation or sick days.  (accrued time available for use after 90 days); 

  • A studio apartment is available for use on days off.   

  • Teaching Family Model training provided with the opportunity to obtain Teaching Family Model Professional Certification.

PURPOSE: 

To be responsible for the daily care and supervision of the living group to which (s)he is assigned. (S)he facilitates, in large measure, the socialization and treatment goals in the treatment plan for each child. In addition, (s)he provides support and backup to the other childcare staff. Teaching Parents are eligible to receive benefits that include health insurance, retirement plan, paid personal time off days for vacation, holidays, or personal leave.


ACCOUNTABILITY: 

The Teaching Parent(s) receive direction from and are directly accountable to the Program Director.


ESSENTIAL TASKS: 

  • Involvement in the implementation of treatment goals and day-to-day care.

  • Create an environment of “no restraint” youth empowerment. The Full-time Family Teacher Couple will be proficient in identifying and implementing appropriate verbal de-escalation techniques as trained in the Teaching Family pre-service workshop and/or prescribed in the individualized behavior support plans to reduce/eliminate need for physical restraint.

  • Model and teach youth general social skills, self-care (i.e. personal hygiene to include bathing, brushing teeth, grooming, care of clothing/personal belongings) and self-maintenance (i.e. room care, household chores, meal preparation).

  • Establish and maintain meaningful positive relationships through the use of quality components (i.e. pleasant, warm, supportive, non-verbal demeanor and voice tone).

  • Provide a daily structured routine which includes extra-curricular activities in and outside of the home (i.e. school, campus, and community events) to promote healthy habits based on youth’s developmental needs.

  • Implement the Teaching Family Model as trained, consulted, and evaluated.

  • Administer medications according to agency policy. Document and maintain accurate medication logs.

  • Maintaining and documenting regular communication with parents, caseworkers, teachers, agency personnel, and others who are directly or indirectly involved with the youth’s treatment and care. Submit all required paperwork on time and in a complete and organized condition, meeting or exceeding all licensing requirements (including behaviors support plans, progress notes and logs).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be at least 21.

  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma

  • Be able to pass extensive background checks

  • Be able to pass a physical and drug screen

  • Successfully complete TFM training

  • Must be dependable regarding work schedule and punctuality.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain objectivity, fairness, and consistency.

  • Assertive, flexible, team-oriented, and able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Willing to travel and stay overnight.

  • Empathy for the goals and practices of a childcare agency.

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and able to be insurable by Hope Ranch of Missouri’s insurance carrier.

  • Ability to become CPI certified and efficient in the use of Teaching Family Model. Have sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Hope Ranch of Missouri’s youth.

  • Experience working with adolescents is preferred but not required.
